It has long been established that health care professionals are largely affected by the amount of authentic heartfelt presence that is required in order to make the greatest impact on their patients’ health, and their own. Meditative mindfulness practices developed by Jon Kabat-Zinn and other science professionals have been shown to increase the overall wellness of healthcare providers by changing (even preventing) the way the day to day stressors, such as, heavy workloads, time requirements, demanding interpersonal relationships, and emotional traumas affect each individual. The healing profession is more than an occupation; it’s an important science-art form that requires the whole being to provide the greatest outcomes. Meditation techniques that have been practiced for millennia cultivate states of presence, empathy, compassion, and connectedness in simple and straightforward ways.
During each session, participants are encouraged and lovingly guided through various meditations involving cultivating compassion, and non-attachment awareness to become acquainted with a way of perceiving each occurrence of any moment as if it was a new scenario with new sensations. This type of non-attachment practice allows the practitioner to leave old stories behind and re-calibrate/rewire emotional and physical responses so that they no longer trigger extreme cortisol reactions, which can leave a person feeling full of purpose and aspiration for the day. These meditations are recommended for every healthcare professional with no requirement for meditation proficiency or aptitude.
Matthew has been teaching meditation to all types of people who have been exposed to a wide variety of life circumstances. He is well versed on how to those who are new to the practice into an appreciation for mindful meditation.
