SUMMARY:Lymphedema Education and Risk Reduction Class
DESCRIPTION:This class is for anyone who has undergone or is undergoing breast cancer treatment and will focus on lymphedema education and reducing the risk of its occurrence. \nDuring the class\, we will review the basic anatomy of the lymphatic system and define common procedures performed during the treatment course for breast cancer that affects lymphatics. Risk reduction strategies\, including compression sleeves\, will be reviewed in addition to the typical presentation of early lymphedema. \nFinally\, a brief description of Axillary Web Syndrome will also be reviewed\, and basic stretches/exercises to implement if cording is present.

DESCRIPTION:Ticket includes partner. \nThis class helps prepare parents for emergencies that may occur with infants and toddlers. Along with car seat safety and basic child proofing\, discussion will include prevention and treatment of common injuries. \nStudents will also learn and practice the skills necessary to perform infant and child CPR (cardiopulmonary resuscitation)\, as well as the skills necessary to assist a choking infant and child. We recommend that all first-time parents take this in-depth class to help mothers get off to a better start with breastfeeding. \nTopics include the benefits of breastfeeding\, breast anatomy\, feeding cues\, establishing a good latch\, nursing positions\, ways for partners to support and be involved in breastfeeding\, breast pumping and breast milk storage\, breastfeeding tips and available breastfeeding supplies and resources. It also touches on how to know if your baby is getting enough milk and when and where to get help if needed. \nClass instructor is an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant.
