SUMMARY:Lymphedema Education and Risk Reduction Class
DESCRIPTION:This class is for anyone who has undergone or is undergoing breast cancer treatment and will focus on lymphedema education and reducing the risk of its occurrence. \nDuring the class\, we will review the basic anatomy of the lymphatic system and define common procedures performed during the treatment course for breast cancer that affects lymphatics. Risk reduction strategies\, including compression sleeves\, will be reviewed in addition to the typical presentation of early lymphedema. \nFinally\, a brief description of Axillary Web Syndrome will also be reviewed\, and basic stretches/exercises to implement if cording is present.

We are devoted to people with everyday experiences\, sharing their feelings in a safe environment\, and developing relationships that can contribute to improved physical and emotional health. These insightful classes are facilitated by oncology nurse navigators\, social workers\, and surgical nurses. \nIn this class\, you will: \n• Meet your navigator and learn about cancer support services available to you\n• Hear about pre-surgery instructions and your pre-admit appointment\n• Receive education in rehabilitation and lymphedema\n• Have your questions answered about treatment\, including chemotherapy\, biotherapy\, immunotherapy\, radiation therapy and clinical trials \nNote: 18y+ only. This class is not suitable for minors. Childcare is not provided. \nVideo-enabled attendance is available.
